I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter No. 10/2855/15 of the 15th June, 1933.
I would most respectfully request reconsideration by His Excellency the Governor of his decision that I should
be severely reprimanded.
Repayment of the excess allowance was delayed, but
I feel sure that His Excellency will, on reconsideration, agree that there was at no time any intention on my part to defraud the Government. I might, of course, have made a refund at any time between the various postponements of my children's departure, and claimed the amount again when it became possible to secure passages for them, but it was essential that I should have the amount ready at hand at once when passages required, possibly at short notice, and, in view of the long delay in obtaining payment in the first instance, which was the real cause of my wife having to proceed without the children, i feel that I might be excused any irregularity which His Excellency may consider to have occurred in my retaining the amount over so long a period.
